BALD HEAD ISLAND: Things to do

Recreational Facilities

The Beaches are prized possessions, and we ask that you cross the dunes only at the marked access points. A dune ordinance is in effect, and illegal crossings of the dunes may result in fines.

Surf fishing is exceptional on Bald Head Island. Try your luck along South Beach, the Cape Fear River, the mouth of the marina, and East Beach.

Life on Bald Head Island

The home you’re staying in is the owner’s vacation home. Please treat it as you would your own. Please do not smoke in the cottage. You are welcome to smoke on the porch or on the deck.

In place of an automobile, you’ll be driving an electric cart powered by batteries that must be recharged. If you use the cart frequently during the day, charge it overnight. Charging instructions can be found on the battery charger in the garage or storage area of your unit. Operation of the cart is quite simple. There are no gears, only forward and reverse. There are, however, several rules which must be followed:

· 18 MPH speed limit

· No parking in traffic lanes

· Observance of stop signs

· Must have a valid driver’s license · Drive on paved surfaces only There is a telephone in your rental accommodation. Local calls are free, but we ask that you please make no long-distance calls other than collect or credit-card ones. (You will be billed after your departure for any long-distance calls during your stay.)

Should you wish to leave the island during your stay, you can purchase a "no frills" ticket to the mainland at the ferry depot. This ticket is good only on the day purchased. You must provide your own ground transportation and carry all packages yourself.

When planning your trip to the island, arrange for the pets to stay home. It is the law in the state of North Carolina that there be no pets in rental accommodations.

Royal James Landing

Royal James Landing is nestled in Bald Head Island’s maritime forest, and is bordered by the 13th and 14th fairways of the island’s golf course. The rental unit has two views: from the front deck you see the landscaped grounds and community swimming pool; from the rear deck you see the golf course.

The complex takes its name from the island’s history, for it was Stede Bonnet’s pirate ship, the Royal James, that was frequently anchored in the waters off Bald Head. Each of the units has a living room with sliding glass doors to a deck, a corner fireplace, a dining room and two full bathrooms. The kitchen is fully equipped, but you must bring your own sheets and towels. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, and the other bedroom has two twin-sized beds. There is also a sleeper sofa with a full-size mattress. Four adult and two children’s bicycles are also included in the unit, so you will not need to bring your own.
