HOW TO GET THERE
Bald Head Island is located off the southeastern coast of North Carolina, across the Cape Fear river from Southport, a town 30 miles south of Wilmington via NC 133. US Air, ASA, Delta and American Eagle fly into New Hanover International Airport in Wilmington and Myrtle Beach, SC Jetport.
Bald Head Island is only accessible by private passenger ferry from the Bald Head Island terminal lot located at Indigo Plantation off West 9th Street in Southport. The ferry departs from the mainland on the hour, and departs from the island on the half-hour. A Bald Head Island ferry ticket includes round trip passage on the ferry, delivery by tram to the rental unit, pick-up from the unit when departing, and all handling of baggage. The cost for these round trip tickets is \\$15 for adults, and $8 for children 12 years and under. To check the current ferry schedule and make reservations, call 910-457-5003.
Parking
A daily fee is charged for parking in the secured lot. As you enter through the electronic gate, you will receive a dated ticket. Keep this until you leave the island, then present it at the ticket window when you depart Indigo Plantation. After paying the appropriate amount, you will be given a token to insert into the gate as you exit the parking lot.
Arriving on the Island
After your ferry ride, you’ll debark at the island marina and be assigned a tram. Your luggage will be off-loaded from the ferry, but you will be responsible for getting it on your assigned tram. The tram will deliver you right to the rental unit’s door.
Check-in is at 3:00 p.m. We suggest you make reservations for the 2:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. ferry. Make your reservations well in advance by calling the ferry terminal at 910-457-5003.
VACATIONING ON BALD HEAD
When packing, remember that Bald Head Island is an informal place. You may wish to dress up a bit to dine at the Cafe, but comfort is always the key. Pack as you would for an airplane flight - take lass, not more. Your belongings will be handled as freight. Everything that is handled by Bald Head’s personnel will have to be contained in luggage or sealed boxes that are clearly tagged, in order to avoid mix-ups. You will have to carry all other items, and we suggest you also carry all items of value. There is no charge for luggage, sealed boxes, or golf clubs. Other large items (i.e. bicycles, high chairs, surfboards) may require a cargo ticket.
You need not bring groceries. A well-stocked grocery and sundry store, the Island Chandler, will have all that you’ll need for your stay. The store sells wine and beer, but you will have to bring any other alcoholic beverages with you. They also have videotapes, which can be rented, and viewed with the VCR in the rental unit.
Also, an informal worship service is held every Sunday as 8:30 a.m. in the Village Chapel on the island, located near the lighthouse. Dress is informal, and all are welcome to attend.
Security Deposit
Guests are responsible for any damages which occur as a result of their occupancy, apart from normal wear and tear, including accommodations, the golf cart, or household furnishings. A $300 security deposit is required when booking the unit. This is returned within 7 days of your departure, provided there is no damage or excessive cleaning. The rental payment must be paid in full, tax included, two weeks prior to arrival date A check will be sent to refund the security deposit within 7 days after checkout. Any charges for damage, excessive cleaning, or lost keys will be deducted from the security deposit.
Checking out
Your scheduled time for leaving the island by ferry should be reserved by calling the ferry depot at least two days in advance. You will be given a tram pick-up time when you reconfirm.
Regardless of your scheduled ferry departure time, your party must leave the condo prior to 10:00 a.m. on the day of departure. All members of your party should be packed and ready to return to the harbor when the tram arrives.
Before you are picked up by the tram, be sure that your golf cart is parked in the garage and plugged in. This is very important, as these vehicles look so much alike that it is very difficult to find one that has been left at one of the parking lots, or at the wrong residence.
When you leave, please leave the keys on the kitchen table, but make sure NOT to lock the door of the unit. Be certain you have collected your bedding, and that you have not left your towels in either of the bathrooms.
There is a $65 fee for cleaning services after your departure, which should be left on the dining-room table with the keys. This includes laundering of sheets and towels, which are in the hall linen closet.
